The Fundamentals of Faithful Stewardship

Financial success is often made to sound more complicated than it really is. The world is always chasing the next trend, tip, or shortcut. But biblical stewardship is not built on fads; it is built on fundamentals—principles that do not change because they are rooted in truth.

For the Christ-follower, the purpose of money comes first. We do not manage money simply to accumulate more, impress others, or build our own little kingdoms. We manage God’s money, God’s way, for God’s glory. That purpose should shape every financial decision we make.

Once purpose is clear, the practical disciplines become easier to understand. Living below our means creates margin, and margin gives us room to obey, give, save, and respond when needs arise. Avoiding toxic debt protects our freedom and keeps yesterday’s decisions from controlling tomorrow’s opportunities. Building reserves helps us prepare wisely for the realities of life because emergencies are not a matter of if, but when. Investing consistently and patiently allows time and compounding to work—helping us provide for our families, support ministry, and plan responsibly for the future.

None of these fundamentals are flashy. They will not trend on social media. But they work—and more importantly, they reflect faithful management of what God has entrusted to us.

For BMA Retirement Plan participants, retirement planning is more than numbers on a statement. It is part of a larger calling to steward wisely, live faithfully, and prepare intentionally. When purpose drives the plan, money becomes what it was always meant to be: a tool for provision, generosity, ministry, and legacy.

That is stewardship stripped down to the basics: honor God, practice discipline, build margin, think long-term, and use every resource for His glory.
