What Has God Entrusted to You?

While reading a recent article by Jim Denison, I was reminded of a timeless question: “How much money is enough?” The answer often reveals more about the human heart than the size of a bank account.
It is often said that John D. Rockefeller was once asked how much money was enough, and he replied, “Just a little more.” Things have not changed much today. A newer car, a larger home, or a bigger account balance never seems to fully satisfy, and Scripture explains why. Since the Fall, mankind has wrestled with the desire to build and control his own kingdom.
At the same time, the Bible gives a proper perspective on work and stewardship. Genesis 2:15 teaches that God placed man in the garden to “work” and “keep” it. We are called to cultivate, manage, protect, and wisely use what has been entrusted to us.
That principle directly applies to retirement planning. Retirement assets are not merely resources to accumulate; they are part of a stewardship responsibility. Saving and investing wisely matter, but they should always be approached with the understanding that we are managers, not ultimate owners.
Denison offered three practical observations worth considering. First, identify the “land” God has entrusted to you — your family, work, ministry, influence, and resources. Second, faithfully cultivate what has been placed in your care through diligence and discipline. Third, use present resources for eternal purposes by investing in things that outlast this world.
For participants in the BMA Retirement Plan, retirement preparation is not simply about accumulating more. It is about faithfully managing "the land" entrusted to us, developing it, and using it for His glory.
