Pastors, Money & Ministry

ree

There’s a false idea floating around that pastors are supposed to have it all together—especially when it comes to money. The truth is, many don’t. In fact, Amberlee Rich points out that nearly 40% of pastors face financial stress, and many are quietly struggling to meet basic needs. After coaching dozens of pastors, she’s identified six key principles that make a real difference.

  1. Stewardship matters. Psalm 24:1 reminds us that everything belongs to the Lord. When pastors embrace biblical stewardship personally, it ripples through the congregation.

  2. Get your financial house in order. Financial stress is one of the fastest tracks to burnout. Lower expenses, pay down debt, maximize your housing allowance, and build margin so you can serve without distraction.

  3. Plan ahead. Too many pastors focus only on surviving today and ignore tomorrow. Start saving and investing now.

  4. Lead by example. When you get intentional with money, you’ll find yourself more confident teaching your people about stewardship.

  5. Model generosity. Generous leaders foster generous churches. That doesn’t happen by accident—it takes intentionality.

  6. Talk about money. Jesus didn’t shy away from it, and neither should we. Teaching and resourcing your people in this area leads to healthier families, freer finances, and stronger churches.
